Assets and Liabilities Defined, Explained and Compared in One Minute

The two terms get thrown a lot quite a bit on television, online and so on. But what are assets anyway? What about liabilities?

Bank Assets. Banks have general assets and liabilities just like individuals. There are asset accounts that make money for the bank. For example, cash, government securities, and interest-earning loan accounts are all a part of a bank's assets. To the owner of the account, a checkable deposit in an asset. Conversely, because the depositor can withdraw funds from an account at any time and the bank is obligated to pay, checkable deposits are a liability for the bank. Usually, checkable deposits are the lowest - cost source of bank funds. While a customer deposit sounds like straight income, it is in fact a liability to the business. Yes, cash is received by the business, and yes this cash increases the assets of the company. When a customer gives funds to a business prior to receiving the goods or services, the business “owes” the customer something. This simultaneously, creates a credit and a liability for both the bank and the borrower. The borrower is credited with a deposit in his account and incurs a liability for the amount of the loan. The bank now has an asset equal to the amount of the loan and a liability equal to the deposit.

Assets and Liabilities Defined, Explained and Compared in One Minute
Assets this, liabilities that!
The two terms get thrown a lot quite a bit on television, online and so on. But what are assets anyway? What about liabilities?

The two terms get thrown a lot quite a bit on television, online and so on. But what are assets anyway? What about liabilities?
In one minute, I did my best to not just define assets and liabilities but also explain then in an easy-to-understand manner. Also, by comparing assets and liabilities, the similarities as well as differences should become blatantly obvious.
Way too many people make mistakes when it comes to so-called "easy peasy" terms such as assets and liabilities. Don't be one of them... just don't :)
